Two masters...
Two masters …
I remember when I first saw this performance in October of 1999. I saw it live on television, and using a VCR(!), I recorded the performance. For several months afterwards, I would sit, rewind, replay, and learn all of the various guitar licks throughout the song.
It’s funny how things change. Now, I can simply find and watch vitually anything at anytime, even on a phone in the middle of nowhere. Our access to information is astounding.
What hasn’t changed, on the other hand, is access to talent and taste. These qualities in artists are as rare as they’ve always been.
The thing that struck me about this performance, and still amazes me, is how in a relatively short, simple song, each player manages to fully express the essence of his style. I really don’t think you could find a better example of Eric Clapton’s and B.B. King’s sensibilities. Their individual playing styles, shared musical histories, and friendship are in full display.
One of my favorites, hope you enjoy it.
